Best Nuisance 1: Jonathon is a gift from God (audio)

This is my first attempt at reading my own work. All I can say is hats off to voice actors – I can’t get through it without tripping over something. In this case it’s the flub around the 3 min mark.

Also, I recorded this on my iPhone, which turns out to be amazing at picking up wet, liquid mouth sounds.

N.B. The sample contains some bad words.

Psst… wanna try my book?

The Background

Phil has just returned to university for his final undergraduate year, and life is good. Together with best-buddy Noel, he’s having fun creating confusion and mayhem across campus.

A new source of joy is their next-door neighbour Jonathon, a fresh-faced fresher fresh out of sixth form. Meaningless notes have been appearing under Jonathon’s door, including ‘DON’T LOOK AT THE LOG’ and the portentous ‘TONIGHT. 10.30PM. POTATO. ‘

And Phil is just becoming aware of another new student, who will soon play a big part in his life. As yet, he doesn’t even know her name.

The Sample

Phil resisted growing up.
What about you?

My barely-fictionalised alter ego Phil made it his mission to remain young and daft. How about you? At 21, had you already become a mindful, thoughtful younger adult – or you were still creating havoc and revelling in naughtiness? Let me know!
